7 things you should know before starting your business
If I knew these 7 things sooner, I would've saved myself a lot of stress as a business owner.
You should be planning your week BEFORE it starts.
Your energy levels vary every day of the week, if you wake up on a day you’re feeling a bit less ambitious, energetic, hopeful, whatever it is, you won’t have the mental space to project a productive day. But if you’re planning your days the Sunday before, or when you’ve rested and been rejuvenated to get excited about the week and what you want to get done, that same energy will welcome every day of the week.
Invest in education as soon as you can or you will do everything twice.
The internet makes you think you can access all professions and knowledge for free. Outsource on what you don’t need to know, like hiring a copywriter for your website, and invest in you need to know for the long-run. The truth of the matter is, so much integral information is stored in the people in your industry. So unless you want to learn everything twice, the sooner you can invest in education or mentorship, the better.
Know it will completely change your relationship with yourself.
Believing yourself isn’t an option anymore, it’s practically survival and the thing that makes the difference between sinking or sailing.
You should have always good audiobook on lock + friends plans.
As an online brand copywriter, I spend lots of time spent alone. So finding a way to make it work and feel cozy is important. I reserve a lot of energy into making plans with friends. You’ll need more since social interactions now need to be scheduled in. It also helps if you schedule them while doing something else you like. Maybe eating some food or yoga!
Know your work spurts.
Do you work best in 3 hour spurts? 2 hour spurts? When do you typically need breaks? Knowing this information helps you maximize the amount of spurts you can squeeze into a day without burning out.
Know it’ll take a long time.
Have built in things you can do to earn you extra cash, I did theater jobs, sales jobs, dog walking, anything you could imagine. Do not underestimate that this is not a short process.
Know it is so much fun!
Having something that feels your own, where every smidge of energy is actually funneling into something sustainable that will support you for the long-run feels good. Everyday I show up to work on my copywriting studio I still get butterflies!
